Remix Modules: Enhancing RTS Through Just-in-Time Scaffolding
ποΈ What Are Remix Modules?β
RTS, at first, was developed to function in a straight line, but through various iterations has become more of a system of movement (and movements) of pause, return, and reframe. While the concept of sequential movements are designed to sketch a full arc from inquiry to synthesis, real research journeys donβt always follow a set path. A student might need help with audience awareness early, stumble over framing late, focus on planning and practice, or want to explore sound design midway through production.
Remix Modules are flexible enhancements: conceptual pivots, rhetorical deep-dives, production techniques, and workflow strategies. The idea is that they could plug into any movement or spin-off as completely novel movements, enriching the core without disrupting its structure. These are based on real world lesson plans, some designed to introduce students to concepts and ideas of narrativity, others more practical related to organization or planning.
π¦ What Remix Modules Offerβ
- π§ Conceptual frameworks (e.g., fabula vs syuzhet)
- π§ Production practices (e.g., chunking, scripting)
- π£ Rhetorical strategies (e.g., hook mining, genre matching)
- π οΈ Organizational tools (e.g., artifact curation, planning templates)
π When to Use a Remixβ
- After Movement 1.3 (Audience Awareness), insert Hook Mining to sharpen stakes and tension.
- After Movement 3 (Medium), use a more advanced Podcast Analysis 2.0 to explore more intricate and non-linear structural possibilities.
- Anytime after a synthesis, try Production as Practice to build resilience through creative friction.
𧩠Remix Modules (formerly Phase 2 Movements)β
These originated as a separate Phase 2, but now are conceptualized as remixable components:
| Module Title | Focus | Use It When... |
|---|---|---|
| From Knowing to Telling | Orientation | A student needs to pivot from reflection to outward communication |
| Fabula, Syuzhet, and Story Moves | Story? Narrative? Discourse? | They struggle to shape research into sequence and pacing |
| Research Hook Mining | Rhetorical entry points | A project lacks urgency, surprise, or emotional draw |
| Genre and Format Matching | Medium awareness | Theyβre choosing between podcast, video essay, or paper |
| Script Chunking | Audio scripting | Voice needs structure, pacing, or rhythm |
| Podcast Analysis 2.0 | Listening for form | They benefit from modeling nonlinear or layered structures |
| Rhetorical Practice & Rehearsal | Tone and delivery | Voice or audience alignment needs refinement |
| Research As Artifact Management | Asset organization | Notes, links, and files are chaotic or incomplete |
| Production as Practice | Creative resilience | They feel blocked by the tools or overwhelmed by the tech part |
| Just Make a Plan | Workflow strategy | They need a timeline or roadmap to finish the work |
